The Athens-Limestone County Family Resource Center (ALCFRC)
The Athens-Limestone County Family Resource Center (ALCFRC) is dedicated to helping families find success by providing guidance, information, and personal mentoring. Our drive to improve the quality of life for all residents in our community is seen and felt through our caring attention to each person who comes through out doors and into our programs.
If you or someone you know is in need of guidance please know we will do what we can, and in a welcoming way, to get the right resources to the right people. Every person is important to us at ALFRC and will be treated with respect and dignity.
Family Solutions Program
Helping Limestone County residents with urgent rent and utility situations find short and long-term support.
The Family Solutions Program welcomes low-income individuals and families who are having difficulties paying rent and/or utilities. A meeting between the FSP coordinator and the resident provides a better understanding of the family’s situation and then what resources would be available. One of the core resources provided is money management support, through classes and/or one-to-one mentoring.
This program is largely funded by local churches and The United Way of Limestone County. Local banks and financial advisors are also a key element to the success of this program as their financial professionals often volunteer as our budget teachers and mentors.
Workforce Development Program
Helping Limestone County residents overcome challenges to sustainable employment.
The Workforce Development Program addresses the barriers low income individuals might encounter as they strive to meet professional goals. If someone who receives public assistance is having trouble finding and then keeping a job, this program helps understand the situation in order to provide the right resources.
Possible resources include support for: resume writing, job search, interview skills, and professional soft skills such as communication, leadership, teamwork.
Family Ramp Program
Helping Limestone County residents with mobility concerns gain easier access to their home’s entrance.
The Ramp Program provides qualified households with wheelchair ramps, built on-site by volunteers. Those who are in need of a ramp meet with the program’s coordinator for a needs assessment. The assessment might also include a visit to the home.
Funding for this program (mainly the materials) typically comes from local churches, individual donors and some goverment agencies such as TARCOG.
Project Game Changer
Helping students in 6th - 12th grades improve their self-esteem. The Game Changer Program provides self-esteem mentoring in an after-school program to students who are starting to show behaviors which might lead to delinquency, dropping out or other troubling situations. Funding for this program is provided by an Alabama Department of Education grant.
Project Smile
Helping kindergarten - 5th grade students improve their self-esteem. Project Smile provides in-school self-esteem and social mentoring on a weekly basis to students who are showing interfering behaviors. Funding for this program is provided by an Alabama Department of Education grant.
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library
Mailing free books to Limestone County children as funding allows. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library mails free high-quality books to children from birth to age five. ALCFRC is proud to have this highly awarded program under our wing for Limestone County. The program is funded in part by local government, churches, civic groups and other entities. Currently, our funding only allows for books to be mailed to children who live in the 35620, 35614, 35671, and 35739 ZIP codes.
Family Assistance through Community Ties (FACT) Program
ALCFRC is partnered with Athens City and Limestone County School systems to address external and internal social barriers that interfere with academic performance.
Limestone County’s Families First Program
Aims to serve parents who are unemployed/underemployed, lack their high school diploma/GED and lack skills necessary to obtain or maintain employment. The focus is to assist the parents in acquiring skills with the result being that they obtain employment thus creating economic stability for their family. Parents will also be able to strengthen their family through case management and attending classes utilizing evidenced-based parenting curriculum.

Shepherd’s Closet:
- free clothing and basic household items available to those in need
- Just call to set a time to visit the closet. It is only available by appointment.
Military blankets for the homeless
- Donated military blankets distributed to our local homeless population
Christmas Coldweather Clothing
- Free hats, mittens, and coats distributed during the Christmas season
Partner with/host Crisis Services of North Alabama
- For those experiencing domestic and/or sexual violence Crisis Services of North Alabama is in our facility Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm. Services are always available by phone, including and especially for those dealing with urgent life-threatening issues.

Habitat For Humanity of the River Valley
- The Center is honored to partner with HFHRV to identify, screen, and refer potentially qualified candidates to Habitat’s traditional home ownership program as well as their home repair program.
